Hyderabad, Dec 23 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the Government had implemented the free power supply scheme in the agriculture sector successfully and would continue to do so in future.
Dr Reddy said the Government would give a presentation to the Central Planning Commission on the successful implementation of the scheme.
''The Centre and the World Bank had earlier expressed their apprehensions when the State Government decided to supply free power to farmers in the agriculture sector with a view to provide irrigated water to remote areas in the State, but the Government facilitated the process transparently,'' he added.
The Chief Minister said,''due to free power supply to agriculture sector, the foodgrain production had increased in the State. The foodgrain production was expected to reach 180 lakh tonnes during the current financial year, compared to 163 lakh tonnes in 2006-07, he added.
He said the Government had decided to implement the 'Aarogya Sree Health Insurance scheme' in the state during the next year to 1.82 crore poor families in the state. The Insurance scheme would ensure free medical treatment to poor and downtrodden, he added.
He said the Government would implement the National Rural Employment Guarantee(NREG) scheme in April, 2008.
