Panaji, Dec 23 (UNI) Goa's Movement Against SEZs (GMAS) today warned tourists against visiting the place from December 28 as the agitation, demanding scrapping of all special economic zones, is likely to ''take an ugly turn'' after Christmas.
''Let the tourists sacrifice their visit this season, lest they face consequences for which the Government should be held responsible. We are not against tourists but the stubborn attitude of the Government in conceding our genuine demand to save Goa from realtors,'' Movement's Convenor and former minister Mathanhy Saldanha said.
Interacting with media persons here, Mr Saldanha said that the political and non-political constituents of the movement had decided to intensify the agitation against SEZs, and hence requested the tourists to cancel their holiday trips to Goa and leave the State before the agitation intensifies.
Stating that the movement leadership had lost faith in the Government headed by Digambar Kamat, he said instead of scrapping all the seven SEZs, the Chief Minister had notified the third SEZ at Sancole.
''In spite of its promise, the Government had not yet come out with a white paper on the SEZs by December 17. The Government alone shall be held responsible for any untoward incident that may occur in future out of people's frustration on the issue,'' Mr Saldanha added.
