Jabalpur, Dec 23 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said the BJP's thumping victory in Gujarat was the victory of development-oriented policies of the party's central leadership and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr Chouhan, who was here to take part in the Bhagwat Katha at Barha village in this district, told UNI that opposition parties especially the Congress had launched a negative campaign but public had given befitting reply by bringing the Modi-led-BJP in power.

''The victory has proved that baseless allegations levelled by the Congress against Mr Modi had not affected public, who understood that the Congress took recourse to false charges and conspiracy during elections,'' he said.

He said poll victory in Gujarat would help decide the condition and direction of politics of the country. It would affect results of assembly polls in various states in the favour of the BJP.

State BJP President Narendra Singh Tomar said the poll victory indicated that the NDA would come to power in the next Lok Sabha elections and senior party leader L K Advani would become the Prime Minister.

He said the time was high that the Congress learnt its lessons from the defeat in Gujarat where its lies could not help it out. The Congress would meet similar fate in the next year's assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh.

Replying to a question, he said the Bharatiya Janshakti would not have any affect on assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh.
