Buchanan's contribution to Australia's success is nil: Chappell

By Staff

Melbourne, Dec 23 (UNI) Former Australia captain Ian Chappell has joined Shane Warne in his verbal attack on former Australian coach John Buchanan and said that he has played no role in Australia's success.

''His contribution to those victories in my opinion is absolutely nil. Is someone going to tell me that if my daughter had coached Australia, would the results have been any different,'' Chappell was quoted as saying by the News Limited.

He added that Buchanan's presence in the team did not make any difference and the team would have done better without him. ''I am here to tell you the results wouldn't have been any different at all. In fact, they might have been better without him there.'' Chappel argued that the captain's contribution is what matters in the team's success and the coach just adds a mere five per cent to that. ''It's a simple decision. The captain is 95 per cent important, the coach is five per cent important. Guess who I am going to worry about first?'' He also endorsed spin wizard Shane Warne's comments on his former coach and said,''Shane Warne would have been a magnificent attacking captain for Australia.'' ''A lot of people refer to John Buchanan's record as coach.

How many wickets and how many catches and how many runs did he make? He did not make any.'' UNI
