Guwahati, Dec 23: Police today recovered a powerful bomb, targeting ONGC's drilling installations in Assam's Sibsagar district.
Sibsagar Superintendent of Police Shyamal Saikia said over phone that the bomb was recovered from a bamboo bush on roadside in Borhola village under Geleki police station in the district's Nazira sub-division. On receipt of information about the bomb midnight last night, a team of police from Sonari police station, led by SDPO J S Bora, recovered the bomb.
It was defused at the site in presence of the villagers, he added.
The bomb, weighing about five kg, was suspected to have been planted by the ULFA militants to damage the installations of Diwanchand company, a sub-contractor of ONGC drilling operations.
The company has four drilling installations under Nazira sub-division in Sibsagar district. Militants have frequently targeted oil and other such installations to draw attention of the authorities.
