Ballia, Dec 23 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate and son of former Prime Minister late Chandra Shekhar were among five candidates booked for violating of the Model Code of Conduct enforced in the wake of December 29 Ballia by-election.
Those booked comprise Neeraj Shekhar, Vinay Shanker Tiwari (BSP), Rajiv Upadhyay (Congress), Virendra Singh (BJP) and Harish Kumar Tiwari (Independent), Police Superintendent L V Antony told a news conference here this evening.
They had been charged with campaigning for the coming bypoll without permission. All the cases had been registered under section 171 (h) of the IPC, the SP added.
Besides, 115 vehicles of the BSP candidates and two of SP had been seized during the campaigning.
