AP committed to women's welfare: CM

Kadapa, Dec 23 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the government was committed to the welfare of women in the state.

Addressing a public meeting here, he said the government had proposed to provide Rs 7,000 crore this year and Rs 14,000 crore next year for the welfare of women through Self Help Groups (SHGs).

Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the IIIT at Edipulapaya and announced a donation of Rs 50 lakh, from Raja Reddy Memorial Trust, for the cricket stadium to be constructed here.

The stadium would be named after Raja Reddy, father of the Chief Minister.

Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhary was also present at the function.
