Vidit Gujrathi retains National u-13 chess title

New Delhi, Dec 22 (UNI) Defending champion Vidit Gujrati (Maharashtra) drew the 11th and final round game with state-mate Pranav Shetty to retain the Parsvnath National under-13 chess championship here today.

Vidit finished with an impressive score of 9.5 points in all, drawing three and winning eight games and remained unbeaten throughout the event. The Nasik lad started as favourite and had raced to 8.5/9 before taking two easy draws to take home the trophy.

Ankit Rajapara (Gujrat) finished second beating former world under-12 champion N Srinath in a fine attacking game.

Ankit took his tally to 9 points overall and in the tiebreak had the better of Pranav, who finished third with 9 points.

The top three of this event will participate in the next World and Asian Championship.
