Chennai, Dec 22 (UNI) Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) General Secretary Thol Thirumavalavan today criticised AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa for her oft-said remarks that the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu was supporting the banned LTTE.

Talking to reporters here, he said Ms Jayalalithaa's charge was a blatant lie and politically motivated.

Asserting that the DMK never supported the LTTE, he recalled various instances in which DMK President M Karunanidhi had condemned the proscribed outfit.

He also pointed out to the recent arrest of three LTTE men and said it proved the DMK Government was not supporting the organisation.

Asking her to define the meaning of ''support'' to a banned outfit, the VCK leader said offering moral support was different from providing material support.

Mr Thirumavalavan also recalled the observations of the POTA Review Committee that sympathy or oral support for the cause of Eelam Tamils did not mean supporting the ideology or methodology adopted by the LTTE.

''Mr Karunanidhi's penning a poem to mourn the killing of LTTE Political wing leader S P Thamilchelvan should not be construed as a support to the LTTE. It's a humanitarian gesture,'' he reasoned.

He said morally supporting the LTTE was within the rights of freedom of expression.

Ms Jayalalithaa criticising those condoling the killing and condemning the attacks on Tamils by the Lankan Military only showed her 'fascist' attitude.

He said the VCK would organise a massive conference on January 25 in the city to bring all humanitarian forces together to condemn the remarks of Ms Jayalalithaa.

Referring to Ms Jayalalithaa's charge of a VCK functionary getting arrested for allegedly smuggling spare parts to the LTTE and being released the same day 'due to Mr Karunanidhi's intervention,' Mr Thirumavalavan said he was prepared to quit public life if she proved the charge.
