By Staff

Vijayawada, Dec 22 (UNI) The Dr NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) will host the South-West Zone Inter-University Volleyball Championship for Women which starts on December 28.

Informing this to the UNI here today, NTRUHS Physical Director P Thirumurthy said 76 teams from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and hosts Andhra Pradesh would take part in the seven-day tourney.

Two of the four courts have flood lights. This is a major tournament that the university will be hosting after the South Zone Inter-Varsity Men's Tournament in 2002.

Mr Thirumurthy said some of the best national players would be seen in action and the organisers were making elaborate arrangements for the spectators to catch the action.

In the last tournament held at Kottayam in Kerala in January 2007, Kannur University emerged winners with Mahatma Gandhi University of Kottayam finishing second, he said.

The four-day All India Inter-University Volleyball Championship would begin at Kolkata on January 11 next month in which the winners, runners-up and two semi-finalists from this tournament would take part from the South West Zone.

Another four teams from the North East Zone will be in the fray, he informed.
