Barabanki, Dec 22 (UNI) A local court today sent the two militants of the Bangladesh-based Harkat-ul-Jehad Islami (HuJI) to 14 days judicial custody.
The Uttar Pradesh Police claimed that the arrests were a major breakthrough with in connection with the May 22 Gorakhpur blasts and November 23 coordinated cycle blasts in Faizabad, Varanasi and Lucknow courts.
One of those arrested was identified as Dr Mohd Tariq Qasmi, a practicing Unani medicine doctor and head of HuJI's 'intizami' (logistics) wing of UP. The other was identified as Khalid Mujahid, a teacher at a Jaunpur-based madrasa.
According to sources, the duo were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Anupama Gopal Nigam under tight security, who sent them under 14 days judicial custody.
At least five people were severely wounded in the three synchronised blasts within five minutes duration at a petrol pump, Baldev Plaza Market and Hotel York in Gorakhpur on May 22.
On November 23, serial blasts at court permises of Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad had killed 13 people and wounded 70 others.
