Delta districts limping back in TN
Thanjavur, Dec 22 (UNI) With the heavy rains due to a depression over the Bay of Bengal receding, the worst affected Cauvery Delta region was limping back to normality.
According to Thanjavur district authorities, the flood waters were receding from the paddy fields in the delta districts of Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam with the sun shining down brightly.
The displaced people were returning to their homes in the affected villages. PWD sources said breaches were being cleared and the district administration was taking measures to provide relief as several hundreds of houses had been damaged.
They said the yield of paddy would be affected by about 50 per cent.
Fishermen were also resuming their normal activities in the coastal areas of Sirkali, Nagapattinam and Vedaranyam.
