Patna, Dec 22 (UNI) Cracks in UPA came to the fore following an announcement by LJP chief and Union Steel and Fertiliser Minister Ram Vilas Paswan to support CPI(ML) candidate in Bihar's Bikramganj Lok Sabha by-election on December 29.
Mr Paswan told reporters today that the party's decision to this effect was taken in accordance with guiding principle of LJP which values about maintaining the equidistance with both RJD and NDA.
By taking a decision to throw its hat behind the CPI(ML), LJP had strived for strenthening the secular and social justice forces, the Dalit leader said.
"Earlier, we had supported CPM in Bhagalpur and CPI in Nalanda during by elections to both the Lok Sabha seats and now in Bikramganj, the LJP had decided to support CPI(ML)'', Mr Paswan recalled and said there was nothing new in fresh decision of the party.
He said the LJP was interested to field its candidate in Bikarmanaj but keeping the opinion of local workers and leaders, the party decided to support the CPI(ML).
In sarcastic attack on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, Mr Paswan said she would soon feel the strength of her new social engineering, when results of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections would come out.
He dismissed the reports of scarcity of fertilisers in Bihar as rubbish and said the crisis had precipitated only due to its black marketing which had given a harrowing time to Bihari farmers, despite release of fertilisers to this state, more than its stipulated quota.
Earlier, state RJD president had claimed that UPA alliance --Congress, NCP and LJP were united in their fight against NDA in Bikramganj Lok Sabha by election.
