CBI court to hear Sacha Sauda case on Jan 12

Ambala, Dec 22 (UNI) Special CBI Judge R K Saini today fixed January 12 for the next hearing in the cases of murder and rape against Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Ram Rahim Gurmeet Singh, who personally appeared in the court here.

As the proceedings started, Dera lawyer complained that the CBI was not cooperating with them in supplying the documents submitted with chargesheet to the court due to which proceedings were being delayed.

He also requested for supply of copies of statements given by the 'sadhvis' to the CBI and submitted three more applications with the court. The Dera Chief stated that he would also submit some documents during the hearing of the case regarding his innocence.

However, the CBI counsel HPS Verma stated that all documents had been provided to the defendants and they were adopting delaying tactics to avoid arguments on the case.

After hearing both the sides, the CBI Judge fixed January 12 for hearing the case.

The Dera Chief is facing double murder cases of Sirsa journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and Ranjit Singh of Kurukshetra and also rape case of a sadhvi who had approached the high court.

The co-accused in the murder case dera manager Kishan Lal, Inder Sein, Avtar Singh and Sabdil were also present in the court today.

The Dera chief had arrived in Ambala last evening with a fleet of about 70 cars.

The Dera Chief who has been provided Z-security was escorted by a large number of police force in view of the fresh threats from the militants. Metal detectors were used during search of the people coming to the court. However, many people, including lawyers expressed resentment about the restrictions as the Lok Adalat was organised here today.
