Car ploughs through bus stop, kills four

Chennai, Dec 22 (UNI) Four people, including two children, were killed when a car ploughed through them while they were standing in a bus stop at Vachakarapatti village on the Sathur-Virudhunagar road in southern Tamil Nadu today.

Reports received at the police headquarters here said the car driver, while attempting to overtake a bus, lost control of the vehicle and hit the people standing in the bus stop.

All the four were crushed to death on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Yogalakshmi (11), Malaiazhagu (40), Murugeswari (21) and Velmurugan (seven).

The bodies were taken to Virudhunagar Government Hospital.

Two people, who were inside the ill-fated car, abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

Police launched a manhunt to trace them.

The car was going to Madurai from Tirunelveli when the incident occurred.
