UP cold wave toll at 59
Lucknow, Dec 21 (UNI) The Cold wave continued unabated in Uttar Pradesh, even as eight people died in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 59 in the state so far.
The latest deaths were reported from Mainpuri, Jaunpur, Kaushambi, Sant Kabirnagar, Pratapgarh and Bareilly districts.
According to the weather office, Sultanpur was the coldest in UP recording the minimum temperature of 5.7 degrees Celsius, 3 degrees below normal.
Following dense fog during early morning and late night, several long-distance trains were running late, while road traffic was also affected.
The night temperature fell considerably in Faizabad and Gorakhpur divisions.
In the next 24 hours, the weather is likely to remain dry and the mercury will fall during night, the met office forecast.
The State Government has made provision of bonfires at prominent public places.
