Teacher beaten for misbehaviour with girl student

Akola, Maharashtra, Dec 21 (UNI) A teacher was badly beaten for making obscene gestures towards a 13-year-old girl student in Samdab Kasampur village of Daryapur tehsil town here.

The accused Ankush Dharmati Sawant, 35, is the center in-charge of Samda circle of Zilla Parishad schools in adjoining Amravati district.

According to police, Sawant had come to the school yesterday for selecting girl students for the programme of sports festival to be held on December 27 and 28. It was a holiday for the school on account of Sant Gadge Baba death anniversary and there was nobody in the school. He later called some seven to eight girl students to the school for preparation and rehearsal.

Later, one of the girl student was taken in a closed room by Sawant, where he tried to misbehave with her. However, the girl's loud cry for help was heard by the villagers, who rushed towards the school and thrashed the culprit. Later, he was handed over to the police.

The accused was earlier a resident of Sangli. Further investigations in the matter are on.
