Kochi, Dec 21: Marking a milestone in its efforts at greater interaction with the public, the Reserve Bank of India today released a Malayalam summary of its Annual Report for 2006-07, the first time ever in a regional language.
Releasing the 111-page summary report at a function here, RBI Chief General Manager (Forex Department) Salim Gangadharan described it as a ''historical event'' for the bank.
Stating that the RBI's endeavour was to make information available in all the statutory languages of the country, he said that while the bank's brochures and pamphlets were available in regional languages, this was the first time that a summary of the Annual Report had been translated into a regional language.
''The RBI does not want to confine itself to an ivory tower. It is our effort to have greater interaction with the people, both to get inputs for policy making and also to make the public aware of our policies and decisions,'' he added.
RBI Regional Director, Thiruvananthapuram, S Ramaswamy said the RBI's public education efforts were aimed at expanding financial inclusion of the people.
