Chandigarh, Dec 21 (UNI) The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) has submitted a list of 57 cases registered against party workers to the Dedicated Cell of the Punjab Police for further probe.
A total of 111 complaints of registration of cases against Congress workers by the SAD-BJP government was received by the Grievances Cell of the PPCC and after scrutiny, 57 were forwarded to the police for a probe, the Cell chairman Col (retd) C D Singh Kamboj and convenor Sukhpal Singh Khaira (MLA) said while addressing a media conference here today.
The police had established the Dedicated Cell recently after Mr Khaira forwarded a list of 30 cases, allegedly registered falsely against Congress workers/leaders of Bholath assembly constituency after the SAD-BJP government came to power to the Punjab Governor.
The Governor had asked Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal to look into the matter.
The Chief Minister wrote a letter in this context to the DGP, who in turn setup this Cell for investigating the Congress complaints. The Cell is headed by DIG (crime) B K Uppal and comprises of two other officers.
Mr Khaira said all the 30 cases he had mentioned in his memorandum to the Governor were investigated by the Cell. All the cases had to be withdrawn after the Cell found that these had been falsely registered.
Mr Khaira said he would be moving the Punjab and Haryana High courts as so far no action had been initiated against those police officers who were behind the registeration of these 30 cases.
