MCC to hold Marathon for Environment on December 25

Chandigarh, Dec 21 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) will organise 'Run for Environment' in the 'City Beautiful' on December 25 for various age groups to commemorate Shaheed-e-azam Bhagat Singh's supreme sacrifice of his life.

While briefing media about the Marathon in a press conference here today Municipal Corporation Mayor Harjinder Kaur said that boys and girls under 15 years, 18 years and above 18 years would run a distance of approximately three kms, five kms and 12 kms respectively. Senior citizens could run 1.5 kms in this event. Men of 60 years and above and women of 55 years and above would be permitted to take part in this category.

Ms Kaur said that to be eligible for participation in all categories, the participants had to be either residents of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali or studying in schools or colleges of tricity.

She further said races in all categories would start from the Sports Complex, Sector-7 and finish at the lake club at Sukhna.

250 participants (Boys and Girls) in each category shall be registered on first-cum-first registered basis on December 23 and 24 from 1000 hrs to 1700 hrs in the Sector-7 Sports Complex, where they would be required to produce proof of their age and residence.

First 20 positions in each category shall be awarded cash prize.
