New Delhi, Dec 21 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed grief over the death of Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Omem Moyong Deori, stating that she had been held in high esteem for her important contributions to the development of her state.
As a dedicated functionary of the Congress, she had always remained in the forefront to spread the party's ideals and consolidate its position in the state. ''Her manifold activities in this direction endeared Smt Deori to her numerous friends, associates, colleagues and admirers,'' Dr Singh said.
A multifaceted persolity, Mrs Deori had the distinction of being an MP and effectively playing her role as a legislator. Her unfortunate passing away due to illness ''is a major loss'' to the people and the state of Arunachal Pradesh, he said.
''On this sad occasion, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and all those who were close to her.
May her soul rest in peace,'' Dr Singh said.
Mrs Deori had died here on Wednesday.
