(PIL)
with

against
the
Election
Commission
of

(ECI)
for
including
the
Chakma
and
Hajong
refugees'
names
in
the
electoral
roll.
The inclusion of the refugees' names in the electoral roll came to light after a 29-day tour by a delegation of the students' body, led by AAPSU general secretary Ojing Tasing, in the Chakma-Hajong inhabited Assembly constituencies at Doimukh, Chowkham, Bordumsa-Diyum and Miaoto, to take stock of the situation.
The PIL was filed in the court through senior advocate Tony Pertin.
In a statement issued here today, Mr Tasing alleged that a few leaders in the said constituencies were supporting the cause of the refugees while undermining the fundamental rights of the indigenous population.
''We would not compromise with the integrity of the state and the rights of the local people,'' he added.
