SRU signs MoU with IIT, Anna University

Chennai, Dec 20 (UNI) Sri Ramachandra University (SRU) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) here and Anna University to promote research.

Signing the MoU, IIT Director M S Ananth said the inter- disciplinary semantics between engineering and medicine could help to bring out newer and cost-effective products to the patients.

He said the two institutions were already working on several projects and the present tie-up would help to bring out newer cost-effective products.

On behalf of Anna University, its Vice Chancellor D Viswanathan signed the MoU for joint collaboration in areas like biomedical engineering, emergency services and telemedicine.

''Already, strong linkages exist between the two universities. A Post Graduate programme 'ME-Biomedical Engineering' is offered at Anna University with the support of SRU,'' he said.

Speaking on the occasion, SRU Director and Chief Advisor (Research) Prof S P Thyagarajan said the university had conceived a MSc in Translational Medicine and a PG fellowship in translational health sciences for biotechnology.

To promote translational research, a central research facility was created for inter and intra institutional collaboration and multi-investigator cum interdepartmental research projects.

On the MoU with the IIT and Anna University, Dr S Thanikachalam, Chairman and Director, Cardiac Care Centre said while biomechanics and biomedical engineering would collaborate with the IIT, medical electronics and medical physics would tie-up with Anna University.
