Varanasi, Dec 20 (UNI) The ''science express'' that was flagged off by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Germany's chancellor Dr Angila Markal on October 30 from New Delhi's Safdarjung railway station will arrive at the railway station here on December 22.

The science express would halt in the city till December 25.

''It has been developed by Max Planck Society, Germany with generous support of their government and many industries,'' science express local co-ordinator Dr C D Singh told newspersons.

A number of activities were being organised in each of the 57 places, where the science express would halt, he said adding, this included interesting competitions, lectures, visits to research and development labs, while promoting exhibition in the science express.

Career counselling would be an important element in these activities, Dr Singh underlined.

A special coach has been designed for projecting the opportunities available for research in science and engineering in Germany. Another important coach depicts the achievements in science and technology by our scientists. Two TV monitors would play video clips of modern developments, while interesting models serve to rivet attention of viewers to these achievements, he added.

Apart of this, a coach has been converted into kids lab. This space allows visiting students to perform interesting experiments, which will enthrall them.

He said the main purpose of science express was to encourage talented youth to seek career in science teaching and research.
