Ahmedabad, Dec 20 (UNI) National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), that has organised over three million credit linked Self Help Groups (SHG) in the country in the role of the SHG Federations, has now come out with policy guidelines to provide active support to them.
NABARD sources said that now the SHG Federations can avail support for their various activities such as capacity building, problem solving, promoting special programmes to meet the needs of its members, facilitating safety net mechanism, organizing training programmes to impart new skills, upgradation of skills, participation of SHG members in the organised supply chain management of agriculture produce, bulk buying of produce at source for distribution among SHG members at competitive price and marketing of consumer products in rural areas by SHGs.
The financial support would be provided by NABARD out of Micro Finance Development and Equity Fund on par with its other promotional schemes under Microfinance sector, sources informed.
SHGs play a crucial role in bringing financial services to the poor at their door step and also in women empowerment and has crossed several milestones with enduring results.
At present, SHGs are in the process of transition where they have become quite mature to enter higher level of group dynamics involving economic processes like micro enterprises, sources added.
