The leopard, which strayed here from the adjoining Sanjay Gandhi National Park, attacked a woman and her child, residents of the Gokuldaswadi at Khopat, early this morning. In the attack, the woman was injured, but she managed to save her child, forest officials said.
Later, the women was rushed to the civil hospital here for treatment.
Meanwhile, the leopard fled from the spot and took shelter in a nearby godown. Hearing the news, thousands of people from the city rushed there to catch a glimpse of the leopard. It then moved and hid itself in a timber shop. The police arrived at the spot and cordoned off the entire area. The forest department officials laid a trap to snare the animal.
However, after 12 hours at around 2200 hrs, the forest department officials succeeded in trapping the feline cat and took it to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park at Borivili.
Last week, in another incident in the Yeoor Hills, a leopard had attacked a child, but the boy's mother had bravely put up a fight and driven away the beast.
