New Delhi, Dec 20: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has demanded that Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss tender an apology for his 'irresponsible statement' about doctors in Bihar.
In a letter to all cabinet members and Members of Parliament, the IMA said if Dr Ramadoss fails to substantiate his December 14 statement by putting relevant facts on record, it would demand his expulsion from the Cabinet for hurting the sentiments of a large section of doctors of the Association from Bihar as well as the people of the state.
It claimed that Dr Ramadoss, after the conclusion of his speech at the Indo-US Healthcare summit, had said in response to a question that Indian degree was derecognised in the UK as a ''post graduate Bihari doctor had examined abdomen for palpating spleen on right side instead of left''.
The letter said, ''The comment on a doctor from Bihar was not only irrelevant in the context but far from truth and derogatory to the doctor community of the State.'' The IMA rubbished the minister's statement saying it was not true and added that if the medical qualification of the whole country was derecognised in the UK because of a wrong method of examination, then such 'irresponsible statement' by the head of a medical fraternity of the country qualifies for his expulsion from the Cabinet.
