Activists submit memorandum to Governor against SEZs
Panaji, Dec 20 (UNI) A five-member delegation of Goa's Movement Against SEZs, in a memorandum to Governor S C Jamir, reiterated its demand for scrapping all the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the state besides, launching a CBI probe into land allotments.
The delegation, led by its Convenor and former minister Mathanhy Saldanha, met the Governor at Raj Bhavan this afternoon and explained that the tiny state does not require SEZs at all as it would drain already constrained resources like water, electricity and land.
The delegation maintained that the SEZs would further invite a lot of influx of migrants changing demographic contours of the state and its culture.
The Governor assured the delegation that he would convey their feelings to Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.
Other members of the delegation include office bearer of the Movement Sasi Kamat, Goa Suraj Party leader N Dhume, BJP General Secretary Govind Parvatkar and former GPCC President and rebel Nirmala Sawant.
