Jalaun, Dec 19 (UNI) Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police today gunned down a notorious dacoit Anup Gujjar, carrying a reward of Rs 55,000 on his head, in an encounter here.
Gujjar's reign of terror extended from UP to Madhya Pradesh.
Acting on a tip-off, STF police superintendent Amitabh Yash laid a trap near Shankarpur ravines this morning.
When the Anup Gujjar gang tried to cross the Yamuna river to enter Auraiyya district, the STF asked them to surrender.
However, the dacoits opened fire. The STF also returned the fire and in the ensuing encounter Anup was killed.
The police fired a total of 25 rounds.
A 315 bore rifle, a countrymade pistol, torch and a large quantity of ammunition was recovered from the spot.
Anup carried rewards of Rs 20,000 and Rs 35,000 on his head announced by UP and MP governments respectively.
He was wanted in about 24 cases of heinous crimes, including murder, loot, dacoity, arson and kidnappping.
