TN to receive 24,200 metric tonnes of fertiliser tomorrow

Chennai, Dec 19 (UNI) Tamil Nadu will receive 24,200 metric tonnes of imported DAP fertiliser from Jordan tomorrow.

An official release here today said the fertiliser would be immeidately despatched for distribution among farmers.

The arrival of fertiliser at Tuticorin Port followed a letter by the Chief Minister to the Union Fertiliser Minister on November 23.

After it was estimated that the farmers in the state would require 77,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser during December-January, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi wrote to the Union Minister, it said.

For the requirement of 33,750 metric tonnes of fertilizer during January, arrangements were made with Indian Potash to receive 17,500 Metric tonnes of DAP fertiliser, the release said.

Another 15,210 metric tonnes of fertiliser would be procured from Spic, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers and IFCO, the release added.

The arrangements would ensure that there was no fertiliser scarcity in the state, the release added.
