Three killed, 67 injured in accidents due to foggy weather

Chandigarh, Dec 19 (UNI) Three persons were killed and 67 injured in different accidents in various places in Punjab since last night due to poor visibility caused by thick fog.

In Phagwara, one unidentified person was killed while more than five dozen persons, including women and children, sustained injuries in eight different road mishaps in and around Phagwara during thick fog this morning.

According to police, in the road mishaps occurred on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road, Phagwara-Jalandhar road and Phagwara-Goraya road, around 18 vehicles were badly damaged as the vehicles rammed into each other due to poor visibility.

Ten injured were admitted in civil hospital while the others were admitted in various private hospitals, the police said.

A report from Amritsar said that two people, identified as Devender Singh and his wife Lakhwinder Kaur, were killed and one person was injured when a car carrying them collided with a mini truck during fog near Beas in this district last night. The injured was admitted to the civil hospital here.

In Jalandhar, at least six persons were injured in a collision between a truck and a private bus near Chuharwali village under Adampur police station this morning.

The truck driver and five bus passengers including some women, who received injuries, were admitted in the nearby private hospital.

Meanwhile, road and rail traffic were disrupted in the state due to poor visibility caused by thick fog with several mail, express and passengers trains running three to twelve hours behind the schdeule.
