Bangalore, Dec 19 (UNI) Ace Indian golfer Shiv Kapur led his team to top honours in the Pro-Am event of the Global Green Bangalore Open here today.
Despite persistent rain, the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) course was full of enthusiastic participants from the pro and amateur ranks in the event that was a precursor to the Global Green Bangalore Open, an event making its debut on the PGTI Tour.
The format for the Pro-Am event was Texas Scramble, with the best shot by an amateur from each team being selected and other players picking up their ball and placing it within one score card length not nearer the hole.
Each amateur then hits the second shot from the same spot. The best shot was again selected and this process continues until the ball is holed.
Even though the afternoon session was washed out due to heavy rain, the morning session produced quite a contest as Shiv Kapur's team comprising Nitin Jaju, Vineet Chhabra and Utpal Desai took home the trophy after finishing with an impressive score of 58.8 points despite the wet and windy conditions.
SSP Chowrasia's team comprising television personality Charu Sharma, Sanjiv Mehra and Prem Bhatia finished runners-up with a total score of 58.9 points.
Anirban Lahiri, currently 13th on the 2007-08 PGTI Order of Merit, finished third along with his team comprising Kanwaljit Singh, Murali S and Pervez Khan. Lahiri's team totalled 59.6 points.
