Bangalore, Dec 19(UNI) In simultaneous raids on the offices and residences of 13 officials, Karnataka Lok Ayukta unearthed properties worth more than Rs 30 crore, disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Lok Ayukta Justice Santosh Hegde told newspersons here that the raided officials included an IAS officer and Commercial Tax Joint Commissioner.
''The assets seized in the raids, which were still on, amounted to more than Rs 30 crore and might go up,'' he said.
The raids were being conducted in the districts of Bangalore Rural and Urban, Haveri, Chikamagalur, Shimoga, Davanagere, Mandya and Chitradurga.
The 13 officials also comprised two chief engineers, three executive engineers, an RTO, and four Motor Vehicle Inspectors, he said.
More than Rs four crore each was seized from IAS officer Chandrashekhar, (former Deputy Commissioner of Chikmagalur, now posted to Bijapur), Commercial Tax Joint Commissioner Ismanullakhan and BESCOM Engineer Venkateshwar Reddy.
The properties seized included houses, sites, shopping complexes, bank lockers and agriculture land.
This was the second major raid conducted by the Lok Ayukta in the last two months with the last one being on Bangalore Urban Water Supply Managing Director, in which property worth Rs 20 crore was seized.
