Govt providing all facilities for Dalits education: Barnala

Chennai, Dec 19 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today said the state government has been providing all facilities to ensure that education reached every individual.

In his address after releasing a book 'Dignity and Freedom for Dalits', he said education leads to uplift of an individual and society.

''Undoubtedly, education and consequent employment were the important factors that make Dalits attain respect and live a better quality of life'', he said.

He said ''our Nation has developed in all spheres and people of all strata have been provided equal opportunity and especially the underprivileged and the deprived have come up in life''.

''Yet there is a lot more to be done'', he said, adding ''even though governments have put in all effors to uproot the evils of discrimination based on castes, the stigma of untouchability and discrimination is yet to be removed in toto''.

Mr Barnala said ''only when there is unity in hearts and equality in spirit and mind, we can eradicate untouchability''.

''Discrimination can be uprooted only by imbibing the spirit of oneness and humanity of mankind'', he said, adding ''this can be achieved only by education and empowerment of underprivileged and the deprived''.

''We need a co-ordinated effort and it should come from the heart of every individual to treat all as equal and live in unity and harmony''.
