Kolkata, Dec 19: World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand feels that while Koneru Humpy has a potential to become a world Champion, Krishnan Sashikaran was the most ''improved player'' in India.
Some of the Indian players have come up very fast. While (Krishnan) Sashikaran have moved up steadily, cut it is Koneru Humpy who looks the brightest to become a future world champion. Others like Sandipan Chanda, Surya Sekhar Ganguly, Pentala Harikrishna are a little slow than expected,'' he added. About taking on Garry Kasparov again Anand said, ''If Kasparov changes his mind about his retirement I would welcome that. We can have a great match. We did not have an opportunity to play after 1995 and that is a real pity.'' On his goals this 2008, he said, ''Anything I attain in chess is a great motivation for me.
I will be playing in Corus next month. I am a five time winner there, but there is no lack of motivation.'' Asked if he was he wondering about shifting base to Chennai, Anand said, ''Though I operate from Madrid even now, I plan to come down to Chennai and finally settle down here. One of the more important reasons is that we have some very good playing partners here.'' He also advocated for a showcase tournament to give that boost to chess in India. 'We need a big showcase tournament where the big names around the world would come.''
