UP aims bringing malnutrition in children to 23 from 47 pc

Lucknow, Dec 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today decided to appoint 2,769 officials and employees on contract basis to run the central sponsored Intregrated Children Development Scheme (ICDS) so that malnutrition among children could come down to 23.5 per cent from existing 47 per cent by 2012.

A decision to this effect was taken in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mayawati.

Briefing mediapersons here, state cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said of the total appointments to be made on contract basis, 220 will be of project officers, 1,747 of chief helpers, 508 junior clerk and 294 fourth grade employees.

Under the scheme, under-nourished children in the age group of six months to six years are given cooked food and 897 ICDS projects were underway in UP with 1,49,739 centres working at present.

In another decision, the government has decided to give subsidy for bio-fertilisers to small/marginal farmers and people belonging to the SC and ST.

Whereas the Small and marginal farmers would get subsidy upto 50 per cent, while for the SC/ST it will be 70 per cent.
