Kochi, Dec 18 (UNI) The Small Industries Development Corporation, Kerala, today informed the High Court that a ''mechanical defect'' in the seaming process leading defective cans resulted in a delay in packing the 'aravana prasadam' at the Sabarimala temple.

In a statement filed in the High Court SIDCO General Manager (Marketing) submitted that this had caused a shortfall in the supply of cans to pack the 'aravana' since December 13.

SIDCO also gave an undertaking to the Court that the defective cans would be replaced. It also said that SIDCO was functioning on a warfooting to comply with the terms of the contract signed with the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) on December 6, 2007, for supplying the cans.

The statement was filed in response to a notice issued by a division bench comprising Mr Justice K S Radhakrishanan and Mr Justice T R Ramachandran Nair yesterday.

The bench perused the statement today and adjourned the case to tomorrow for further hearing.
