Official sources said members of the guerilla outfit turned violent and went on a rampage inside the jail premises. They vandalised the kitchen and beat up a number of jail staff who tried to resist.
Soon the situation was brought under control as IG (Prison) Sandeep Paundrik reached the spot with a contingent of armed police, sources said adding the agitated Maoists were captured and sent inside their wards. They, however, refused to be taken to the city court as a mark of protest against the death one of their comrades.
A Maoist guerilla inmate of the jail was found dead inside his cell under mysterios circumstances two days ago causing tension among other inmates who alleged that he was beaten to death by the jail authorities. About 300 Maoist guerillas are presently lodged in the high security jail, situated on the outskirts of the city.
Meanwhile, the injured staff were treated in the jail hospital and released after first aid.
The sources informed that security in the high profile jail was being tightened. Senior jail and police officlas were camping inside the jail premises.
