Pune, Dec 18 (UNI) The number two seeded player P Kashyap lived upto his All India Ranking, winning over his 29-year-old Andhra Pradesh teammate JBS Vidyadhar to claim the men's singles title in the Patni Computers All India Major Ranking Badminton Championship, which concluded at the WIE complex, here today.
While Kashyap made his final look mediocre with a no-nonsense 21-12, 21-13 win over Vidyadhar, it was the women's singles between Trupti Murgunde and Aditi Mutatkar that kept the audience engrossed.
Trupti, however, exerting better control and agility prevailed over a resolute Aditi after dropping the opening game 16-21, 25-23, 21-15.
Having always ended up bridesmaid, Trupti, the top-seed, was eager though initial hiccups saw her play, what she described as, ''blank game''. With the first game (16-21) in Aditi's favour, Trupti's seven-point recovery from 1-7 in the second gave her reason to believe, think and execute a plan that took her to a new high.
Wrapping up the second at 25-23, which included saving three match points, the third saw Aditi virtually play at less hat half her pace that resulted in several unforced errors and very little margin left by Trupti to recover.
Kashyap, who won the Bangalore Major last week, from the beginning was the man in form. And with Vidyadhar's stiffness on the court, which he claimed was due to playing three big matches in a row, allowed Kashyap to finish off the match in 35 minutes.
''I simply choked and could not do anything,'' added Vidyadhar.
Kashyap pocketed Rs 1 lakh, the biggest cheque of his career, while Trupti took home Rs 60,000 thus ensuring that it was a seeded players' day out.
Following are the results: Men's Singles: 2-P Kashyap (AP) bt JBS Vidyadhar (AP) 21-12, 21-13 Doubles: Rupesh Kumar/ Sanave Thomas bt V Diju and Akshay Devalkar 21-19, 21-12, Women's Singles: 1-Trupti Murgunde (PSPB) bt 2-Aditi Mutatkar (PSPB) 16-21, 25-23, 21-15, Doubles: 1-Aparna Balan/ P Jyotsna (Ker/ AP) bt Ashwini Ponappa/ Nitya Sosale (Ktk) 23-25, 21-14, 21-12.
