Bhopal, Dec 18 (UNI) Wearing helmet is not compulsory for women in Madhya Pradesh but a letter has been written to the Principal Secretary (Transport) to make necessary amendments in this regard in the Madhya Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) V K Pawar told UNI here today that women and children below 12 years of age are not required to wear helmets under the Madhya Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules.

''In view of safety-related reasons, a letter has been written to the Principal Secretary (Transport) to make helmets necessary for women,'' he said.

Mr Pawar said head injury was major cause for road accidents.

In this view, women must wear helmets despite it not being compulsory for them.
