Panaji, Dec 18 (UNI) In a bid to woo the common man on the eve of the 46th Liberation Day Celebrations, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has today announced welfare schemes worth Rs 10 crores.
Addressing a press conference, he said, the government had decided to extend Rs 25,000 financial assistance to each of the 1000 registered self help groups, 500 each in north and south Goa. Two groups from each panchayat would be chosen.
As many as 2000 kiosk owners with income below Rs 50,000 would be given a grant of Rs 10,000 each for improving their revenues.
Another 2000 vegetable growers and vendors, with income below Rs 25,000 would get Rs 5000 grant each.
Further, each of the 2000 people belonging to economically backward classes will be given Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 financial assistance each for construction/repairs of their houses.
Their income criteria for sanction of assistance was raised from Rs 12,500 to Rs 25,000 to one category and Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 to other category,he added.
Social welfare minister Pandurang Madkaikar said the application forms for the beneficiaries were ready for distribution and the names would be shortlisted as early as possible without any bureaucratic delays.
