New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) Heavy Industries Minister Santosh Mohan Dev today asked the profit-making public sector enterprises (PSEs) to increase professionalism of their Board of Directors and get listed on the stock exchanges.

Releasing a book 'Empowering Public Sector Enterprises in India', Mr Dev said full managerial and commercial autonomy to profit-making PSEs had been achieved to a large extent with major PSEs, particularly the Navratnas, becoming global players.

''Though some PSEs have transformed themselves into sound commercial enterprises capable of competing with the best in the world, getting listed on the stock exchanges and enhancing professionalism of the Board of Directors would have to be their primary tasks,'' he said.

The book has been brought out by the Department of Public Enterprises, and is the outcome of the proceedings of Chief Executives' Conference on Public Sector Enterprises held here on March 8 this year.

It dwells on various critical issues such as competition, diversification, autonomy and corporate governance, and discusses the challenges before the CPSEs during the 11th Plan period.

It also addresses issues of ownership by the Government, audit of Government companies and Constitutional issues.
