Jammu, Dec 18 (UNI) 'Jammu Prabhat', the country's first daily newspaper in Dogri language, was launched by the Kashmir Times Group here today.

The KT Group, which had played a major role in raising the demand for inclusion of Dogri language in the Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution, has been publishing a regular two-page supplement with its Hindi daily 'Dainik Kashmir Times' since April 8, 1992.

''Jammu Prabhat is an endeavor to give the Dogri language its due recognition,'' KT Group of Publications Editor Prabhod Jamwal told UNI.

Like the other two newspapers of the KT Group -- the Kashmir Times (in English) and Dainik Kashmir Times (in Hindi) -- this newspaper will also have an independent policy with objectivity in presenting news and free and fearless comments, Mr Jamwal said.

As its first newspaper, 'Kashmir Times' which is in English language, was launched as a weekly in 1954, and was later converted into a daily in 1964. The second daily in Hindi, 'Dainik Kashmir Times' started in 1989.

Besides its internet edition, the group also publishes a fortnightly children's magazine 'Springer', which also involves youngsters in its write-ups.

The KT Group, which has several eminent journalists and analysts as contributors in the major cities of the world, has been credited as 'the voice against human rights violation'.

In recognition to its work in the protection of human rights, this newspaper group was awarded for the third consecutive year with the ''International Media Human Right Promotion Award 2007'' during the IX World Human Rights Congress in Nagaland.
