Cuddalore, Dec 18 (UNI) Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam(DMDK) Founder Vijayakant today said his party was gaining popularity in Tamil Nadu with more people coming forward to join it.
Talking to newspersons at Virudhachalam, in Cuddalore district, he said people had lost their faith in the ruling party and the party which ruled earlier in Tamil Nadu, implying the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK.
Mr Vijayakant also alleged that in the recent DMK Youth-wing Conference at Tirunelveli, crowds were brought in offering huge sops.
The DMDK leader said youth were unhappy with the state Government, as they did not give priority to primary and secondary education.
He said the DMK had criticised the former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao for power failure in the State, but they themselves could not set right the problem now.
He said in the next ten years any government that would be in power will have to provide employment for youth in the state.
He wondered why other parties were anxiously wanting to know the goings on in his party. DMDK would be an ideological and principle-based party and would not succumb to political pressures and threats from other parties, he added.
Mr Vijayakant alleged that his marriage hall was demolished sometime ago only to pressurise him, but he was not scared and would not wilt under any pressure.
He said the state government should take proper steps to set-up a Special Economic Zone(SEZ) and satellite townships.
The DMDK leader wondered as to what prevented Chief Minister M Karunanidhi fromn announcing the name of his son and the Minister for Local Administration as his heir-apparent.
He asked what was the reason behind the DMK party's announcement that it would treat Rs 40-lakh collected in Tiruneveli Conference as balance amount.
