Panaji, Dec 18 (UNI) UP BSP legislator Tahir Hussain Siddiqui was arrested today for possessing live ammunition in his registered baggage before check-in for boarding a flight to Mumbai from Dabolim airport, Goa.

Authorities of Air Deccan detected empty and live catridges during X-ray screening of Mr Siddiqui's luggage at the airport before check-in.

He was immediately handed over to the Vasco police with the help of the CISF jawans, according to Airport Authority of India Director Paul Manickam.

Vasco Police Inspector Dalvi said the legislator was possessing catridges of 0.34 bore without carrying valid licence. The legislator, however, claimed that he had a licence for carrying the weapon.

Mr Siddiqui, representing Gandhinagar constituency, told the police that he was, by mistake, carrying the cartridges of his wife, who has licence for the weapon. He has moved a local court for bail.
