Bangalore, Dec 18 (UNI) Bisleri International today announced their association with Major Ashutosh Tripathy, India's only RS X Class windsurfer for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
"Bisleri is keenly interested in sponsoring alternative sports in India. Maj Tripathi would be flying to New Zealand shortly to take part in the Olympics qualification rounds. Windsurfing is unheralded sport in India and we hope the Tricolour waves in all such alternative sport events," according to company CMD Ramesh Chauhan said.
Maj. Tripathi's journey towards success began with a vision to see India gain Olympic recognition in surfing and windsurfing. He bagged seventh spot in the recent Bali International Windsurfing Regatta and became the first Indian to make it to the final of the first Asian Beach Games to be held next year.
"This is a momentous occasion for sportspersons in the country.
Despite having such a huge coastline windsurfing is still a sport hitherto unknown in our country," Mr Chauhan said in a statement here today.
