Tripura set record in women's empowerment: Manik Sarkar

has
claimed
that
the
state
had
set
a
record
in
women's
empowerment
and
development
of
the
backward
communities.
Addressing a public rally organised by the women's wing of the Left Front here yesterday, Mr Sarkar said the state government had given priority to women's participation in the Panchayati Raj system and economic activities.
''More than 700 self-help groups are being run by women while the state government is urging for financial assistance from the banks, besides providing support through government schemes,'' Mr Sarkar said.
He said the CPI(M) government had emphasised on expansion of educational facilities for girls across the state as well as to provide social security for women.
Meanwhile, Left Front MP and women's leader of the party Brinda Karat has also praised the state government for women empowerment initiatives in Tripura.
