Tripura has set record in women's empowerment: Manik Sarkar
Agartala, Dec 17 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar claimed that the state had set a record in the country in women's empowerment and development of the backward communities.
Addressing a public rally organised by the women's wing of the Left Front here yesterday, Mr Sarkar said the state government had given priority to women's participation in the Panchayat Raj system and economic activities.
''More than 700 self-help groups are being run by the women while the state government is urging for financial assistance from the banks, besides providing support through government schemes,'' Mr Sarkar said.
He said the CPI(M) government had emphasised on expansion of educational facilities for girls across the state as well as to provide social security for the women.
Left Front MP and women's leader of the party Brinda Karat praised the state government for women empowerment initiatives in Tripura.
