Ranchi, Dec 17 (UNI) The Hatgamharia-Baiburu National Highway in West Singbhum district continued to haunt the UPA-backed Madhu Koda government and forced Speaker Alamgir Alam to announce constitution of a special committee today to enquire into the matter.

On the second day of the winter session on December 15, the BJP-led Opposition mounted pressure on the government over construction of the road forcing Mr Koda to reply even as the dissatisfied Opposition kept shouting slogans prompting the Speaker to adjourn the House for a while.

Initially, Mr Alam had referred the controversial issue to call attention committee but the Opposition did not accept the same.

As the House assembled for the day, Mr Saryu Rai (BJP) raised the matter leading to a pandemonium for a while.

Even at one point of time, a few members from the treasury also went to the well protesting against Opposition's hoolabaloo leading to a din.

Leader of Opposition Arjun Munda said it was unfortunate that the labourers enganged in construction of the road were hired from outside the state and expressed concern that such move did not augur well for Jharkhand where unemployment was a burning issue.

The NH in the news was the main reason over which the present Chief Minister, then a senior cabinet minister in the erstwhile Munda-led NDA government, had revolted and withdrawn support from the government along with three other rebel legislators to pave way for the UPA government to take over nearly 15 months ago.
