Remedial coaching for SC, BC, Minorities

Chandigarh, Dec 17 (UNI) The Haryana Higher Education Department has launched an ambitious scheme of remedial coaching in Science, Maths and English subjects for the students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Backward classes and minorities.

Under the Scheme, 24,010 students of 59 Government Colleges would get the benefit and a sum of Rs ten lakh had been earmarked during the current financial year, Haryana Education Minister Mange Ram Gupta said today.

Mr Gupta said the scheme envisaged special coaching for three months in an academic year in each subject to the students belonging to above categories.

He said the teachers would be given honorarium as incentives of Rs 800 per subject per month for three months during the academic year and about 195 teachers would get the benefit of the scheme.

The Education Minister said that similarly the Education Deparment had launched a scheme for the students belonging to Muslim community and under the scheme, they would be provided a sum of Rs 500 for the purchase of stationery and a sum of Rs 1500 for purchase of bicycle.

He made it clear that this facility would be given only those students whose parents' annual income did not exceed Rs 50,000 per annum. He made it clear that the grant for the bicycle would be released only once.

The Minister said that under the scheme, a sum of Rs five lakh had been earmarked and 349 students of 39 Government Colleges would get benefit of this innovative scheme.
